oh, read this thread first if you haven't.  it's about us switching to SMF.

But - anyway - what I'm asking is if it'll okay with you guys if we go into maintenance mode for a maximum of one or two days.
There will be a chatroom and some sort of temporary HRF (not a forum, persay, but a link explaining what's going on with information, etc)..
The forum will reopen again, and the SMF forum will (hopefully) be up.

During this period when we'll be in maintenance mode, I'm going to ask you guys not to post (because I'll be converting all member profiles and posts to SMF, and new posts won't make it on there)

if you still aren't okay with the SMF conversion, here's the place to tell me

SWITCH TO SMF YAY!!!!!  But yeah if you have to put HR in maintence mode to do the SMF thing, go for it.

it'll be the same, but with more options for customization - and that's what I'm looking for  
I can even make the layout pretty much the same, so the only thing that'll change is the URL

Those that are non staff can't post anyways, so you don't have to worry about that. Anyways good luck converting all of our posts to SMF.

Yeah, it sounds fine to me. As long as it doesn't take too long. =P I'm not exactly sure why we're switching to SMF, because I haven't been paying attention. Haha. But it sounds like a good idea, I guess.

When you open HR, only staff can login. You'll know when it starts because it will say.

I think he was meaning in case he was already logged in, and it was set up while on the forum.  I'm not really sure if that happens or not.  There's a chance you might be logged out and then the message would be obvious.

So I'm a little confused, but I guess this is okay.  What will the new URL be though?  If you get it up and running will you still post the new URL here?

The new URL will be at howrude.org/[something] and of course I'll post it here     This site will redirect to the new forums and I'll put it on read-only.  That way it works as an archive of some sort

Archive, good idea. Just wondering, are you gonna archive the gmod and mod boards as well? It would be a pretty good idea considering this forum will be in read only.

I'm going to keep all the stuff we've got here, nothing gets deleted    though the access levels will stay the same (guests / members only / staff only)
and guests will be able to register at the new forum to see the members only stuff that's archived here.
