Episode Cap Project?
« on: October 26, 2007, 09:11:59 PM »
Well, I know we had the episode guide project, I was thinking maybe there could be an episode cap project.  Anyone who had the DVD's could watch them on their computer and cap them-  It would be much harder than the episode guide project, but it could get a lot of new pictures in the gallery.  So what do you think?

I think it's a pretty nice idea for the side, if you're actually willing to do something like that (or if anyone else wnats to as well).  :)

We haven't had any activity for the Episode Guide Project.  I'd start it up as long as something tells me we're still doing it, lol.

Yeah, it's still going. Meanwhile, the How Rude Monthly is cancelled and there will be no further issues.

As for the cap project, I'm not sure we'd have enough space to put in thousands of high resolution images in our gallery. We only have 1GB.

I think an episode cap project would be a great idea, just as long as all the pics would fit into the gallery though.

Yeah, I would so help if we did do that since I have seasons 1-7, but I don't know how to do screencaps lol.

I guess that's a problem right there then, lol.  I don't really have much of an idea of how things like that work, so although the idea is nice, we'll have to consider that.

If the video is in the right format, I think you can capture inviidual frames with a photo editing program. Corel Photo Paint, which is what I use, can do this. Although it can only then save the frame in the same video format. It can't convert the frame into an image file. Other photo editing programs might be able to do that, I don't know. Video editing software might also be needed. Again, I don't know for sure.

Given that we only have 1 GB in the gallery, my suggetion woulld be to rotate the screen captures every so often. That way people could download ones they want when they get posted to the gallery, and then other ones can be posted that can also be downloaded.

I read somewhere where you don't need software, but I tried what they told me to do, but it didn't work maybe because I have Vista?

when I want to take a still of a video, I usually pause it and take a screen shot, then put it in Photoshop and cut out the browser and everything so I just have the picture :P

although I'm sure there's some better way to do it lol....

I'm sure paint will do the same thing, you just crop it :)

ooh, thanks for the suggestion, Mikayli :D  I didn't even THINK about something like that.. awesome.
Well if we request more space and follow the rules, I don't think we should have any trouble getting it.
Also, we don't have to have high-res caps.. maybe something w/ a max of 300-400px..?  That shouldn't take oto much space up if we don't take super-frequent caps (so like take a cap every 15 seconds?) :D

oh and csoup / fhfreak, both of those ways are kinda slow ;D  you can set it so it's automated, or so whenever you hit a certain hotkey you can take a cap. (well, that's how it works for PSP9, and I'm sure PS does it that way too.. and there are a bazillion screencapping applications that I'm sure you can d/l. I might look into some b/c I have the season 1 DVD.. but we'll need other people to do the rest) sm4

I was gonna ask for PSP9 for Christmas, I'd probably get it if I asked for it since I'm not asking for anything else but money since I'm saving up for a new guitar, so if it's worth the wait and if I get it I'll be happy to help.  And by Christmas, season 8 will be out so I could ask for that and make screencaps...
