Music Overall on FH?
« on: February 29, 2008, 01:15:06 AM »
What is your opinion of the music shown on FH overall?  It can include the theme song, Jesse's music, or other stuff, but try to go for an overall feel rather than just one.  Not that many original recordings were seen on the show at all, but there was ton of live work.  You can base your decisions on what the actual result or instead the general style of music shown.

I think I generally liked the music overall.  In fact, I really have grown to love the beackground music they play during the episodes themselves, like after the theme song before teh actual ep begins, or to transition between scenes.  I think that music in television or movies is very important.  For example, I once turned on FH during The Last Dance, but I hadn't seen the beginning, I just turned it on when they're playing that sad music as they show a zoom-up of the house, and I knew right away what episode it was.

As for the live music, I like it as well.  I'm glad that they never really overused it, and when they did it was fitting and usually upbeat, which I like.

The transitional stuff is pretty good, and almost exactly like Step By Step. sm5  I think it's just to have something blend in there fitting with the mood.  If it was just silent for a couple of seconds I suppose it could work, but FH has become so used to it, the difference would be noted.

The original version of Forever was so much better IMO than any of the ones seen on the show, but the last one they showed was not bad.  I think I almost preferred for the most part the cast doing singing/playing instruments and such more than the live things just because of the humor element to it, and some of those were actual well done musically.

As far as the actual bands, I don't need to even mention my favorite (although what was actually shown on the show does no exemplify that).

I would say I generally prefer the music more as the series progresses. It's not a linear progression, just a general impression of liking the music more as the show progresses.

Background Music -- I find some of it too sappy for my tastes. In the later seasons, a lot of the background music over the exterior establishing shots is more rock oriented, which I like.

Cover Tunes -- Like some, dislike some. Some I like are "My Generation (Danny with Jesse & The Rippers), "My Girl" (Danny with Jesse & The Rippers), "Do Wah Diddy" (Jesse & The Rippers & Michelle) "Rock A Hula" (Jesse & The Taste of Polynesia band), "Shout" (Feedback), and "Teddy Bear" (Jesse, Joey & Danny).

Original tunes -- My favourite songs on the show are original tunes, though I don't like all the original songs on the show. My two most favourites are "Flesh To Love Affair" (from Rock The Cradle) and "A Little More Love" (from The King And I). Other favourites are those from Claire and Present Danger, and "April Girls" (from Making Out is Hard To Do). Don't like Forever as much as I used to, and really don't like "Michelle's Smiling" (from Baby Love).

Guest Singers/musicians -- Like Tommy Page and Little Richard. Beach Boys are ok in Beach Boys Bingo (though I'm not a big fan of the episode), but I don't care for either of the subsequent beach boy appearances. Don't like Frankie Valli.

The Advertising Jingles -- Generally like these more than I used to, but I like other music from the show more.

You pretty much got most of the songs in the series down I think, although Forever is a cover tune rather than an original.  With the guest performances you mentioned, I didn't like any of the specific performances (although the Beach Boys at the end of Beach Boy Bingo was of historical interest).  Their other two appearances weren't anywhere near the regular lineup, so I don't even count those as far as my interest goes (I actually haven't seen the thing on Our Very First Telethon, but it's not that good of a song and there's no Wilson brother).

Actually, there are lots of songs I didn't mention. Most of the ones I would listen to as audio only I already mentioned. Some of the ones I didn't mention I like within the context of the episodes, and might watch the clips of it on youtube, but wouldn't listen to them as the audio only.

Those would be the prominent ones I guess, which is what one would associate with full performances on the show.  I probably wouldn't be able to name many others that were performed fully.

I couldn't completely rate the things from that episode.  If I'm correct, there's a Mike Love singing performance as well. :P  I guess those were the only two?

P.S. 18,000th post! ;D

Lol, I prefer the extended version (with another section of music) that I've only really ever heard online.
