I suppose I wouldn't have a problem with x number of albums to perform if I found that it gave me ample amount of time to do it.  Some bands have several years between albums now.  If you were to go back to the early-mid 60's on the other hand, you might be expect to record 3 in one year.

Quite an output back then. I know Michael Jackson usually takes four years between albums. Buckethead seems to put like four, five or six out in a year. I probably wouldn't object to a deadline either as long as I have enough time to write something I think is worth recording. I just have these visions of that slave contract that the Clash signed.

Oh man. I can't stop listening to "The Pedestrian". LOL

Of the four they have on myspace there, " The Pedestrian" is fairly recognizable as Green Day. The other three songs, not so much.

[ETA] Ok, now I'm starting to get sick of this song. Repetition will do that to you.

LOL, I never do that to a song I love.  Sometimes I'll even shelve the song completely (albeit noted) if I don't remember the melody.  That makes a relisten so magical.  Inevitably it will die down but I never listen to same song more than once in a row, or even within a few days really.  I've been annoyed for getting tired of things in the past.

And what was the contract the Clash signed, Harry?

Basically it was one album per year for ten years. Being that they apparently didn't know enough about the business they didn't know that an album consists of promoting it by touring, doing photoshoots, all the stuff that goes along with a record. So they just signed up to never stop working for ten years.

On the Foxboro Hottubs Myspace, it says that their album is a "12 song LP". Does this mean it's been released on vinyl?

There..might be a chance that the entire album will be out on vinyl as well. You'll have to wait till May to find out I think. You into vinyl?

I'm not really into vinyl, I was just curious when I saw that on their Myspace page, and wondered if that was the case.

You brought up another point about the contract.  I would probably hate touring, so if I could do a Beatles or Brian Wilson hermit thing I would totally go for that. sm5

I'd be very impressed if something now were to be issued in vinyl in any form.  One of the those classic technologies that I still find a lot of use for (along with VHS and film cameras for me :) ).

Yeah they're going to release Stop Drop and Roll on vinyl too I think.

I suppose I wouldn't mind touring as long as it was a really comfortable thing to do given I do like to play in front of people. But then I think even if you did have the private jet, the touring schedule alone is grueling enough.

Hmm, well what is their intentions for bringing it our on vinyl?  I like the idea but it just seems by today's standards most artists and companies wouldn't be in favor of doing it.

They're probably going for that retro thing. They do a kind of updated 60's garage rock thing. On the other hand, some might tell you it's more punk rock to have something out on vinyl. I don't really agree with that because I think it's personal preference and a lot of what's called punk rock comes from the fact that the original punk rockers were working class and had nothing. They weren't necessarily looking to create a look, type of music and change the world or anything. So they got what they could afford...hence the Salvation Army clothes and cheap guitars. That's all they could get their hands on. Johnny Ramone paid 50 dollars for a Mosrite Ventures II in the mid 70's....a guitar no one wanted and still didn't want for a good portion of the Ramones' career.

Billie Joe, Mike and TréCool all like vinyl but I suppose that didn't stop Billie Joe from buying an iPod.

Well vinyl still got regular use up until the mid-80's I believe.  Cassette and CD began coming out and began washing away the technology a bit.  A lot of people still have their hearts on the real "records" though.  I'm just trying to understand the border between it being a novelty and having any commercial considerations.

I think it's partly both. I have a friend who still has a turntable..and a souped primo stereo system to go with it! One of those top shelf audiophile system that uses tubes.
