IMPORTANT: moving servers, backups being made

sorry about the missing posts.. this is the latest backup fan-sites.org had before HR was deleted.

HR is moving servers; we have a week to backup all our files.

updates here at the backup forums. :)

What's the deal on posting between now and the switch? On the plus side, the spamming incident never happened because of the obsoleteness of this backup. But on the negative side I'm still a normal mod lol.

What will happen is everything up to this point will be backed up by myself and FishyWishy.  We are going to make 2 backup copies, that way if something goes wrong we can use the other backup.  When I start to make the backup, I will post on the backup forums letting everyone know when the backup will begin.

When the backup is complete, I will immediately transfer it to the new server and finish setting everything up.  When that occurs, I have to setup everything (the MySQL Databases, FTP, etc) so that FishyWishy can control the site.  That will probably take some time to do (maybe 2-3 hours).  Then, when that is finished, I'll post the new "temporary" address, which will be an IP Address/howrude until I can get the nameservers and the domain onto the server; which takes time.

Of course, I need to reinstall the operating system because MySQL failed to install.  I will have to do that tomorrow since the datacenter is closed today due to the Memorial Day Holiday.  That install will take about an hour, and then I have to configure all of the addresses that will be on the server itself.  I'm hosting 10 sites on this server, along with HowRude; and each site has to get a directory setup in the server's root folder; which is the area where you site shows up on the internet.

Does that make sense?

Lol yeah.  If it weren't for our memories it'd be like nothing happened at HR during that time period.  We'll work out all the staff I presume once this is all taken care of.

Yeah, MTFan, I would definitely make sure that would not happen.  The only thing I am waiting for is to get the login information from FishyWishy to login and start the backup of the website.

Okay so I'm confused, did we lose posts or something?  And we'll stll be located at howrude.org, correct?  I was away all weekend so I'm a little confused. ;)

EDIT: Okay now I see that we lost everything after May 2nd, but there is one good thing that came out of all of this.  The posts from all those spammers got deleted, so it's almost like they never came!

EDIT again:  But hey wait a minute, I worked so hard to reach 1000, and now I still have over 50 to go again.  I'm hating fan-sites.org at the moment.

Just a quick update on the progress- the server is all setup I'm just waiting for FishyWishy to pass on the login information for me to start the backup.  I'm anxiously waiting for her to email me back the information!!
