Home Ages
« on: August 29, 2008, 01:03:00 AM »
This is the place to post the age of your homes.  You can say for sure if you know, or just estimate (guesstimate).  We've been holding out on this basic topic for so long. sm6

I believe my home is from the early 30's.

I don't know for sure how old my house is, but I do know that my mom lived in this house when she was growing up, all I know is that when my moms mom moved to Canada from Scottlnad she lived in this house, so I'm guessing it must be pretty old.

Well then I imagine at the latest it would be the 60's.  It could be a lot older depending on who lived there originally.  The look of the home obviously matters too.  You said you didn't live in a subdivision so that would lean towards it being even a little older, unless this was built more on the outskirts.

My home is only 2 years old. It was built in the summer of 2006 and I moved into it about 2 months later. So its definately a fairly new house. But what am I complaining about? This is kind of my way of saying I'm sexually attracted to round numbers!

Ya it must be around the 50's or 60's in that time frame, its not really on the outskirts its just a street away from a main road. but most of the houses on my street look a little older. My house is yelow and you don't see that colour in new houses.

My home was built in 1945...If I had to guess.
"Some dont believe he ever existed, but that isnt true. He was here, and he was real. The real question is what was he, and why was he here. Many rumors speculate as to what he was. Some believe he was some kind of demon worm creature who would pose as a librarian. Others believed he was an angel sent to spread the word of god. The truth is, I dont know what he was. All I know is what he taught me. Love, friendship, and what it means to truly live. Some call him a monster, something children are terrified by. I only know him by what he called himself. Weird 4." - nicest comment ever!

Mine was actually built in 1921. I remember that so easily, because my house number is actually 21 too, haha. Anyway, my great grandfather helped build it and yeah, we eventually got it as a hand-me-down, but having an already paid off house is far better than still paying a house off. sm11

The original house on the lot where i live burned down in the early 30's, and was rebuilt in like 1934. My aunt bought it in the 50's, and my parents moved in the bottom apartment in the 80s. (My aunt still lives upstairs lol).

Wow, a number of fairly old ones here.  In a lot of ways I like the old look of homes.  It's really cool in some areas where they base the design of the homes in the style of the first third of the 20th century and before.

Yeah I like the older style of houses too, like around the 20s/30s/40s, the 50s style houses are a little boring and the newer houses all look the same.  I think my house was built around the 40s.  My grandparents bought it around that time but it was really small so they added on it and pretty much built the whole thing themselves.  I'm not sure when it was originally built, but maybe sometime around the late 30s/early 40s.

A lot of the 50's are a creation of the mass production of those wide but shallow in depth bungalows.  There are millions of those around, lol.  They're not bad, but tehre is little character to them.  The ones today depend on the area.  They can be quaint or they are one and the same.  The only house I know of from my family now that was actually built by a relative was my grandparents house. They've been living in it for 60 years I guess now.
