Replacement for CD
« on: September 26, 2008, 12:44:52 AM »
I heard about this new technology that has both the advantages of a physical copy of the music and the convenient nature of mp3 files.  They're called SanDisk.  Kind of interesting, and any talk about that can go here.

Of course even though it's not bad to have new technology I just won't want to replace my CDs.

Sounds interesting, it seems like new technologies such as Blu Ray have been slow to adapt. I'll bet it will be the same case here.
I'm back

I guess it's somewhat unique anyways in that CD sales aren't as strong as they could be with iTunes, mp3 files, and the like already there.  Would another kind of technology compensate even if it partially has the same benefits?  EVen so, the music technology doesn't tend to move as rapidly as movie technology does.  The CD has been a part of music since 1985 when you think about it.

I bet CD's will eventually end up like casette tapes and be phrased out, just like VHS tapes. Technology is changing to fast these days, I prefere to listen to CD's rather than MP3 players and I only download from iTunes if I want a specific song that isn't available in stores. I probably sound like an old person :P

Actually, I'm exactly the same. I too only download from iTunes or Limewire when it's some specific song that I can't get anywhere else. I don't use my mp3 player a lot, and I much rather prefer to go to the record store to buy my copy of the physical cd. I still think there is something special about owning the cd. I would really dread it if I would have to replace my cd-collection aswell, as I think it really would be an end of an era if the CD would be just a tosser-away like the old casette..

I'm the same way, which is why I possess so many CDs.  I really there is at least a niche market for it like with vinyl records, because as expansive as new technology might be, I really don't want everything just to become obsolete after x amount of years and be forced to move on to the next thing.
