Start Over?
« on: June 16, 2009, 07:27:57 PM »
I feel like... this place is too crammed.
Idk if crammed is the right word or not...
but it seems like there's too many threads that NO ONE is posting in... like old threads?
I almost feel like... we should move EVERY thread into the recycle bins, and almost start from scratch.
I mean I don't want to delete all of the old and memorable threads, thats why I'm saying we should move them to the recycle bins.
it's not like we're working to get new members or anything,

If we started from scratch, we'd have more room to make new threads, and new posts.

ALSO-
if we moved all of the threads, it wouldn't look like this place is deserted, because all we'd have is new threads and new posts.
Like, maybe a new Fun Thread?  That thing has over 100 pages lol.

What do you guys think?

I dunno, I guess its a good idea. It would make all the boards/sections look less cluttered and bomarded with old topic or topics with very few posts. But NEVER get rid of the old topics. Those are the kind of things you wanna read, over and over again from years past. (I know you just said that, but still). lol

I think that is a great idea. It's always good to start fresh with these kind of things. Like a new, rebuilt, but still the same ol' HR. ;D I know how excited we all can get in new forums, so we really should do that!
I love these guys <3

Do you think we should also get rid of the FH roleplay and episode guide boards?

I kind of said this in your PM but I'll repeat it here.  I think the essential part of this would simply be to send the ones that are obsolete into the recycle bin.  Surely there are a fair number of those.  That should ease some of the tension.  I'm not sure about sending threads there simply because they're long or older if they're as relevant today as when they were created.  We already kind of switched rules that if someone has something useful to say in an old thread bumping it up is no issue at at all.  But we can start with the former aspect to this and go from there.  See where it takes us at least.

Getting rid of the episode guide board would be fine.  Roleplay I think is kind of nice to have its own section.  I'm not sure how much it'll used if at all but it has something to offer if someone actually wants to join a FH board.  I think overhauling the system for it would be nice.  Less or no restrictions on who is who's character and being more random can have its place I guess, lol.

I'm opposed to the idea of moving all non-relevant threads to the recycle bin. I oppose giving any members the authority to make the decision as to which threads are relevant and which are not.

What I am open to is proposals to move individual threads and/or boards to the recycle bin, although I would lean towards not moving threads to the recycle bin without a compelling reason.

The types of threads that might be worthy of moving to the recycle bin are threads about old fights, old members, old forums that no longer exist, that kind of thing.

If it's obsolete what's the point in keeping it where it is?  People who weren't around likely wouldn't care if that was the case, and people who are around would only need it for reading purposes.

I imagine it would be far too inconvenient to have a lengthy discussion for each individual thread that could fit into that criteria.  On the other hand, an argument could be put forward for threads that some feel were unfairly sent to the Recycle Bin.  Alternatively, a list could be compiled and any huge objections can be addressed then and there.

I guess it does make sense, how depressing is it to see on the first page of a board a thread that hasn't been used in ages. I don't think we should be to meticulous in doing this, I would just allow staff to move any thread they deem irrelevant to the recycle bin. If somebody feels strongly enough to ask for a thread to be moved back then no debate is really necessary. If that person wants the thread back badly enough to think of it specifically and obviously intends to use it, then what does one thread's worth of clutter hurt?
I'm back

Yeah, I would tend to agree.  Of course it could be manipulated if someone simply said "well I think every single one is still relevant."  I just think it's something where we have to use our best judgment.  Regardless of what thread's go where, the discussion is always open.

I think it would be good to only move to the recycle bin closed threads, and threads that havn't been active since 2005.

I don't support moving 90% + threads to the recycle bin, or anything like that.

The episode Guide Project is the one exception. I would be fine with moving that whole forum to the recycle bin.

I don't think I was planning on moving 90% of them.  For instance if an older thread was asking what's your favorite movie I think it's fine to keep that around.  If people want it to seem newer they're welcome to post in it.  If it's that old I'm sure they'll have something new to say.  But if you're talking about an issue that doesn't exist anymore or members that are long gone, I don't think it needs to remain untouched where it is.
