Lightning Forms
« on: August 11, 2009, 02:19:06 AM »
We had an awful lightning storm last night when we were driving home from somewhere.  Ot was so interesting I thought I'd point a few of the forms of lightning we witnessed, lol.  Random is probably the best place because you all can share your lightning storm experiences here too.

1. One was very close to us by these power lines.  It was amazing to see the lightning actually hit something.  Thankfully it wasn't us. sm5
2. Interestingly we saw the lightning swirling at one point, making a circle and an oval.  I've never seen lightning do this before.
3. Also saw three different stems occur at the same point in time.  It was almost like a light seeing three different paths of light dance in the sky (yikes that was almost poetic :-X )
4. Finally, we saw a very defined one cut across the sky for several seconds.  That's quite a while for something that is usually almost instant to the naked eye.

Just thought I'd talk about this because I thought it was a memorable.  I've also never seen lightning unwavering in its attack all the way home even though it was an hour + drive.  Interestingly, we hardly heard any thunder, lol.  From what I know it was fairly vast because we've talked to other people who are a fair distance away who experienced similar weather conditions.  I'll stop now because I'm rambling. sm3

Lol, yeah my brother tried to reassure us saying "Don't worry.  Winning the lottery is like getting struck by lightning 42 times."  I guess he didn't realize that statement wasn't all that helpful. sm5
