Well I guess it's a good question. It's a good thing to be active, but spamming is retarded. If your posts don't mean anything, why bother? Bumping, well, if people bump too much, the thread gets old and too long and the posts are meaningless. If you spam, sure, you'll get more posts, but they will be unfair, stupid, immature posts.
EDIT: Oh, and a bit more:
A forum is not meant to be super active, though that is a good thing. A forum is meant to be a place where you can have a conversation. And spamming/bumping is no conversation, it's just the word "bump" or "LOL" in every post.

I'm just saying, it doesnt seem like it matters, I mean if it was my forum, I'd let it take place.
Anyways, if you bump a thread, it honestly doesnt matter In my opinion, because it continues the conversation, HOWEVER, it is bad if its just lol or haha or something. Spamming is worse, unless it is continuing the conversation or if it gets off topic from the original subject. So I honestly think that bumping isnt a bad thing unless it is used immaturely. Spamming isnt bad UNLESS it used off topic or is one word like lol.

Exactly what I was thinking. And why bump a topic that nobody cares about anymore? The only way I find this acceptable is bumping on ProBoards Support in GOAYB, because there is a limit on bumping, 4 hour bumps only.

Yeahhhhh... Agreed! It's okay for a little spamming to get a slow forum going, like when HR was really bad and inactive...
but once a forum is active, spamming is kind of pointless and adds to clutter? see?

i have to agree with this.....like say we're in a topic a/b steph right? and we're all just kind of sitting there saying nothing b/c there are like 800bajillion pages in the topic already and there's basically nothing useful left to say a/b her....instead of locking the topic, i think that someone can kindof start up a new convo (not totally random like "who likes pizza?" or shit like that) but ya know like say hey have y'all seen skating with celebrities did you know that jodie's gonna guest start on it? totally different show, totally different theme....but even tho it's random it's still connected (by the actress obvy lol) and then we can have a nice talk a/b that
