Kimora Lee Simmons (born Kimora Lee on May 3, 1975 in St. Louis, Missouri) is a former fashion model and the lead fashion designer for Baby Phat.

Simmons was born to a Japanese mother who was born in Japan, Joanne "Kyoko" Perkins, and African American father, Vernon Whitlock, Jr. She began her modeling career at age 13 with her mother's encouragement and hope of instilling self-confidence in her daughter. By age 14, she had grown to a height of six feet and become a self-professed muse for The House of Chanel's Karl Lagerfeld. As a child she was very self-conscious about being biracial. Working as a model, however, it made her stand out, and she now refers to herself as being a black or multiethnic woman.

She married hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons on 20 December 1998. The couple shares an elaborate estate in Saddle River, New Jersey, with their two daughters. The Simmonses have two daughters --Ming Lee Simmons (21 January 2000) and Aoki Lee Simmons (16 August 2002)-- who both model for Baby Phat Kids Collection.

In March 2006 Russell Simmons filed for divorce from Kimora after 7 years of marriage, saying that the couple had split some time ago.

Kimora Lee Simmons is not the founder of the Baby Phat brand, which first came into existence as a publicity tool for her husband's Phat Farm clothing line. Hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons produced tiny tees with the clever name "Baby Phat" to electrify his men's Phat Farm runway shows. When celebrities and models such as Tyra Banks and Claudia Schiffer started wearing these tees, they became such a phenomenon that the decision was made to launch an entire Baby Phat collection. He brought his wife on board as creative director.

She was cast as one of the celebrity judges on the reality series America's Next Top Model. A feud with Janice Dickinson led her to quit after one season.

Simmons was arrested outside their estate in Saddle River for eluding an officer, marijuana possession, cocaine possession, and careless driving after a two mile chase that began near the Saddle River Police Station.

Her first book, Fabulosity, published by Judith Regan of Simon & Shuster's Regan Books, was released on February 21, 2006. Recently, Simmons has designed a new line of jewelry, called the Hello Kitty Collection. Simmons used the Sanrio Logo of Hello Kitty on the face of all of these new accessories.
