Girl Down...
« on: August 24, 2006, 01:09:14 PM »
I wanted to write something, so this is just the first chapter of some random, unplanned thing I wrote, so don't be too harsh.  :P

Girl Down
[/b][/u]

Jess slammed her locker door closed. It was the first day of school, and her long-anticipated summer was over. She had really loved her summer, she went on 3 different vacations for 3 weeks. Jess loved the vacations, but she also loved the time she had to just lay around and do nothing in the mornings, watch TV, play on the computer and play video games, things that she couldn?t do on school days because she was so busy.

She wouldn?t dare let any of her friends know for as long as she lived, but she was pretty smart, and really liked intelligent things, like debates, intellectual discussions and especially reading. Jessica was also a major computer lover. She wouldn?t really call herself a geek, because she didn?t sit down and learn 20 different languages using Rosetta Stone or play math games, she just hung out on websites and message boards. She loved it. But she couldn?t let any of her friends know, or else she would be out.

You see, Jess and her friends used to be the popular kids in their old school. Last year, they were the oldest, so they ruled everything. Jess was used to being loved by everyone. In her new school, she was the lowest rank you could be?a freshman. She hated that word. They were ridiculed and made fun of, and she would probably never get to be popular again. All she had were her old popular friends, and they started a clique of their own, they were the populars of 9th grade. Jess had to stay in, or else she would be completely lost.

She snapped out of self-pity mode and realized that she was late for gym class. ?Oh, darn it, now the teacher?s going to hate me!? she said, silently. There was nobody else in the hall, though, so it really didn?t matter.

Jessica was a worrywart, so if something went wrong, she went crazy, and normally panicked. She picked her books up off of the floor and started running towards the gym, hoping that the teacher hadn?t shown up yet, so she wouldn?t get in trouble. She ran past the history room, the math room, the music room and the science room, all of which were bustling with activity. People definitely seemed to know what they were doing in this school, even the freshman. But Jess? Nope, she had no clue.

As she entered the gym, her heart skipped a beat and her stomach did a few flips. The class hadn?t started yet, but the teacher was there, and all of the students were sitting on the bleachers. The coach gave Jess the evil eye, and then explained.

?Ah, I see young lady has arrived finally arrived. What is name, kid?? the coach asked, in a heavy accent. Jess couldn?t decipher what country she was from, but she just sounded scary.

   ?J-J-Jessica,? she stuttered.

?Since you here, I let off with warning. Class don?t start ?til students all here. Be early next time here,? the coach said.

Even though the coach said herself that it was just a warning, Jess was humiliated. Here she was, a new student, trying to work her way up to the top, and getting in trouble by a coach who didn?t even know what she was talking about. This was horrible?

Jessica realized she was still standing in front of the crowd, so she took a seat on the bleachers behind a large kid, so she wouldn?t be seen. The coach started rambling on about punctuality and her old country, and then decided to punish the whole class because of 1 person?s actions by having them run 5 laps around the school, when they usually would have just done 1 or 2.

Everyone was staring at Jess, whispering things about her. Probably horrible things. Jess ran alone that day, she didn?t talk to anybody, and she stayed 2 feet away from everybody, not wanting to be ridiculed to her face, which she thought would have been worse than being ridiculed behind her back. It would be less heart wrenching.

?Well, at least I?ve made a name for myself?? Jess said softly? ?But not in the way I wanted to.?

Jess woke up with a jolt. She thought for a second that she was looking forward to another day in 8th grade, but then remembered that she wasn?t at her old school anymore. She remembered Jefferson High, that horrible school that she had only gone to for 1 day and was already labeled an idiot.

Just yesterday, in gym class, her actions had punished the whole school. They had to run 5 LAPS around the school! And their school was pretty big. So all of those kids in her class suffered because of her. Jess thought it was ridiculous that her teacher would do something like that, but she did.

Jessica made a mental note not to meddle in anything, and try to do everything right. It was easy enough, or at least her mother had said that it was easy for her when she went to high school. Jess had to go to this school, because it was a family tradition. Maybe if it wasn?t for her stupid traditional family, she could transfer. Lots of her friends transferred schools a lot, and end up coming back a few months later because their other school stunk.

Jess suddenly felt sick, thinking about high school. ?Should I fake sick?? she asked herself, softly, of course. Her mom was sleeping in the other room. Not like it would have made much of a difference, anyway, though.

Jessica decided to go to school today, because it was Friday, anyway. Tomorrow and Sunday would be perfect days, no school, no major humiliation. And there wasn?t even church, meaning Jess could hang out and do whatever. Maybe she would go to the mall, go out for ice cream, go on a very big shopping spree.

She suddenly realized that it was later than she thought. School started at 8:15, and she had to be there at 7:50 so that she could talk to all of her friends before they went their separate ways. For some reason, most of her friends got classes together, but she had to go off with nobody she knew for almost all of her classes. The only class she had with her friends, well, 2 of them, was foreign language. She had chosen German, because all of the others were taken. And they didn?t even get to talk in that class, English, at least. Was she cursed?

Jess popped out of bed, grabbed the most casual yet stylish clothes she could find, some jeans and a really cute tank top, and ran to catch the bus. Hopefully, she wouldn?t miss it, like she had seen in all of the movies.

No, actually, she was right on time. The bus had only waited for about a minute before she actually came out. She didn?t have breakfast, but that wasn?t really important to her. She probably wouldn?t eat until dinner anyway, because the food at school, like in most schools, was disgusting yesterday, and today they?re having meatball surprise. Jessica?s favorite! Not.

She tried to find her friends on the bus, but they weren?t there. Jess double checked to see that she was on the right bus. She was, which was a good thing. Her friends must?ve all caught the early bus, which only came on certain days. It didn?t come today, though, so they probably either walked to school or drove.

Jess noticed that lately, her friends seemed to be leaving her out. Was it because she wasn?t cool enough? ?That stinks,? Jess whispered. She was silent for a very long time, and just stared at her feet. Then she realized that everybody else on the bus was talking to at least another person, even the nerds, who were seated in the back.

Jessica made another mental note that tomorrow, she should bring her iPod, as a distraction. It?s not like she was going to have anything else to do, anyway. Her friends were probably going to spend as little time with her as possible.

Looking around, she wondered if she was ever going to climb to the top of the ?food chain?, school-wise, like she did at her old school. Jess was so popular at her old school, and now she was a nobody. Well, she wasn?t exactly a nobody, but she wasn?t known for anything that was good. She was known for being a nasty kid, but not even in the cool way. She was now known for getting in trouble and getting other people in trouble. Nobody would like her. She would just be a nobody.

Would she ever make new friends? Would she need to make new friends? Would her friends come back to her? Would she finally get her first boyfriend? That last one was pretty far-fetched, considering she didn?t even have any friends.

?This stinks,? Jess whispered. What would she do?

Jess had gotten though yet another day of school. Nobody talked to her, but nobody had been too cruel to her either. She still had to get through practically 4 years of this high school, and she was only 2 days into it, 3 days if you count today.

Jess really needed to make some friends. Her old friends had seemed to abandon her, like they pushed her out of the clique. And almost everyone knew that bad things came when people were around her, just look at the gym experience. It?s almost like people thought there was some kind of force, like in a TV show. It really stunk for Jess, because now everyone avoided her, which ultimately meant that they hated her.

If Jess was going to survive high school, she needed to have some kind of friend. Even the nerds, the geeks, everyone had friends! The emos had their emo friends, in their own little group. The goths had their goth friends, in their own little group. The nerds had their nerd friends, in their own little group. Jess didn?t have friends, let alone their own group! She used to, but then they kicked her out. She couldn?t believe it! She was going to be ridiculed even worse than all of them were, because she didn?t even have any friends! She was in a group all alone!

Jess went back to the decision that she had been in school 3days, even though her third day was actually a Saturday. So she had 3 years and 362 days left of high school. Throughout all of those days, she should be able to make at least 1 friend, right? That seemed like logic.

She probably wasn?t going to get a friend in her freshman year, much less a boyfriend, if she kept screwing up. On Monday, she was going to be friendly. Yes, yes! She was going to find out if people hated her, and if so, which people? Which people didn?t hate her? Could she make friends with them?

Yes, maybe she was just overreacting. Maybe the reason why people didn?t talk to her was because she wasn?t introducing herself to others. In fact, that seemed like the most logical reason. Of course! Why else would people ignore her? It seemed like people ignored her because they did! But not because she did some petty thing in gym class, no! How could the other students know that, or really even care, anyway?

Jess considered this, and decided that her old reason, because of gym class, was pretty selfish. Did Jess really think she was so important that everybody would ignore her because of some little thing she did? Maybe they were for that class, but after that, did they really care? How the heck would word of a silly, low-ranked freshman get around school?
Jess then realized how self-centered she was, right at that moment. Had she been like this all of her life? She had to do something to regain her popularity, and fast. Maybe becoming less self-centered would help?

No, that couldn?t even by why she was kicked out of her friend?s little clique. Most of her clique friends, her old ones, were pretty self-centered. So how did they become popular? Well, they were rich, but Jess wasn?t exactly poor, anyway. So that couldn?t be it.

Well, whatever it was, Jess would finish thinking about it later. She was going to go shopping for new clothes. Sure, by herself, but oh well. It was lame, but who cares? Jess really did, but she was going anyway. Maybe it would take her mind off of her little problem.

It wasn?t bothering her as much now, though, because she had come up with that wonderful Monday solution. Even though it was pouring rain outside, she felt all sunny inside. She felt like she could do anything. Go Jess! These high school thoughts that she had were just normal thoughts that normal girls had. And she was just a normal girl!

I guess she didn't continue, lol.  I don't think I ever commented on this the first time though.  This was back when I didn't even check up everywhere on the forum.  So I'll give you belated kudos, Leah. ;)

I should write a fanfic about something, but it'd really turn out to be more of a story with my ideas and that'd take me a while.
