I only like the first season of That 70s Show. I started watching the show when it first aired, and I thouroughly enjoyed it. However, I think the show went downhill beginning in the second season. I stopped watching the show regularly halfway through season 2. I've still seen some episodes from the remainder of the series (mostly seasons 3-4), and I think the show gets progressively worse each season.
There were a few problems with the show from season 2 onwards that result in me not liking seasons 2-8 very much (or at all in the later seasons).
1) The first season is set in 1976-1977. Then the show simply repeats the 1976-1977 year for the entire 8 season, until the last episode, when it's suddenly the 80s.
2) In August 1998 I remember reading a preview of That 70's Show in the Vancouver Sun which said that the premise of the show is that Eric and his friends are 17 year old teenagers. So Eric and his friends are supposedly seniors in high school during the first season. There is even an episode at the end of the first season where Eric and his friends go to the high school prom. Then they're still in high school at the beginning of season 2. In fact, I believe they are seniors in high school for all 8 seasons (though I havn't seen very many episodes beyond season 4). This, and the fact that it remains 1976-1977 season after season causes the entirety of seasons 2-8 to be a giant continuity error.
3) Aside from Mila Cunish, who was 13 in 1998, all of the other actors who played the teenage characters were 21 when the show first aired. They were able to convincingly pull of 17 year old teenagers for the first season, as well as maybe the second season. After that, they started to look too old to be in high school, and it got worse every season. Also, while the actors had 70s style haircuts at the beginning of the show's run, some of them decidely didn't by the time the show ended (I'm thinking specifically of Donna, whose hair in season 8 is decidedly 21st century).
4) I think a lot of the plots got incrasingly unbelievable as the series progressed. Wasn't a big fan of Hyde moving in with the Formans. Also, wasn't a big fan of Jacki hooking up with Hyde. There are undobtedly other plot lines from seasons 2-8 I don't like, but I can't think of them offhand.
Se that's why I only like season 1 of That 70s Show. I actually think season 1 is pretty good. The concept of That 70s show was good, but it wasn't sustainable in the long run. It might have been better if they'd started with eighth or ninth graders, and had let them advance one grade every year, with the series ending when they graduate high school. They probably would have needed younger actors to pull it off. They probably would also have needed to have the first season set in either 1974 or 1975, so they could get in 4 or 5 seasons without it becoming the 80s.
