The Last Dance was far enough, and they left out anything in between him being alive and their grieving.  I always found when the guys were just talking about her, it was really all we needed to know.  Kind of like when you've lost someone and you're just thinking to what life was like, not reliving it.

Michelle makes or breaks MANY an episode for me, I'm not gonna lie  :P....

but anyway I wouldn't have minded having one flashback episode as well as Goodbye Mr. Bear, but I wouldn't have wanted any more than that either.

Wow a lot of opinions on this one. I wish the FIRST episode was a two parter. She should have crased at the end of part one, and then the following in part two.

Yikes, I would have struggled to watch that.  Shows really don't like to make devastating moments like that right away, and neither do the companies.  I suppose it's hard to say considering I haven't seen what it might have turned out like, but I wouldn't be optimistic about it.

yeah if the first episode was that depressing, not many people would have watched it.....you're just a drama person, aren't you AJ  ;)

I don't think a family oriented show would be very appealing when in the first episode someone is instantly killed off.

Perhaps on a dark humored show, where they intentionally do it for shock value, but it just doesn't seem to fit in with the FH mold.  Yes, it can get sad and emotional at times, but the idea of a mom/wife just being offed from her family in the first episode doesn't seem to give the right impression of the show.

Yeah, someone being killed off instantly would be painful to watch for me too. Maybe they could put Pam's death in the middle of the season, just like Papouli's death was in the middle of Season 7.

two deaths is a little much though, and if Pam was there at the beginning then the premise of the show couldn't be three dads two daughters b/c the mom's still around, and if you DID make that the one-liner, it would be a giveaway that she's gonna die  :P

I think the differences between Pam and Papouli are that Papouli is just a relative visiting.  He's really not been a part of everyone's life.  Also, Papouli was old and died in his sleep.  Pam's was the sudden drunk driving accident.  Quite a difference there.  The death of an elderly family member will happen.  The other is more of a freak occurrence that you hope never happens.
